Scout Summer Camp, Torquay, July 2007 - Letterboxing

Here are some notes on the letterboxes that we found on Dartmoor during summer camp 2007. Note that not everyone found all of these letterboxes, so you'll have to try and remember which ones you were around for.

Haytor area (Tuesday, 24th July)

Everyone spent Tuesday 24th July in the area around Haytor. It was one of the nicest (weather-wise) days on camp, and everyone had the opportunity to climb, go letterboxing and go on a gentle stroll around a dis-used quarry (complete with interesting "facts" from Nigel).

Box:	Norfolk Dumplings 100 (No. 29115)
Notes:	All Scouts should have found this one, as it was the first one each group tried to find.

Box:	The Farming Life (unregistered)
Notes:	Only the last group of the day spotted this, it wasn't one we set out to find. This box looked new, so might be listed in newer copies of the catalogue than the one I have.

Box:	One of many - Stone Circles (No. 31644)
Notes:	This is the one that we used the GPS to find.

Shipley Tor & Avon Dam area (Wednesday 25th & Thursday 26th July)

These days were split between caving, letterboxing & canoeing. Canoeing took up a full day, while caving & letterboxing were a half day activity.

Box:	Shipley Tor (No. 501)
Notes:	Getting to this required fighting through several hundred metres of bracken. One group managed to find an adder on the way back.

Box:	Stephanie's Dragon No. 20 - Baby dragon (No. 32818)
Notes:	Under a tree. I didn't get many groups to find this one as its stamp was missing.

Box:	Griff on Gripper's Hill (No. 2161)
Notes:	Just before getting to this one there was a view of the Avon Dam

Box:	Dartmoor's History in Stone - Avon Dam & Reservoir (unregistered)
Notes:	Another box we didn't set out to find, but which was discovered by the last group taken to the location.
